• KC Business Journal Honors KCU Executive as CFO of the Year

Massman Joe Kansas City, Mo. (June 4, 2014) – Joe Massman, MBA, chief financial officer and chief operating officer for the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCU), has been named a 2014 CFO of the Year in the large, nonprofit category by the Kansas City Business Journal.

The CFO of the Year Awards are given each year in four categories to Kansas City’s top financial executives who are judged based upon their contributions to their companies’ growth and financial success, their roles in corporate management and strategic planning, and their community involvement.

“Joe is a tremendous asset to our University,” said Marc B. Hahn, DO, president and chief executive officer for KCU. “He has brought stability and confidence to the institution, while simultaneously initiating the necessary changes to move us toward achieving our vision and mission.”

Massman has been with KCU for three years. He has led initiatives to improve and expand the physical campus, update technology systems and enhance compensation and benefit programs. His keen focus on fiscal procedures and process improvement opportunities have contributed to the ability to become the only private medical school in the nation to decrease all students’ tuition in 2013, while at the same time introduce a tablet-based curriculum.

“I am extremely flattered to receive this recognition,” Massman said. “The achievements KCU has accomplished during my short time here are the result of an engaged and highly supportive Board of Trustees, strong presidential leadership, and an extremely talented group of employees. I am proud to be able to represent them and the University as I accept this award.”

Massman earned a bachelor of business administration from the University of Notre Dame and a master of business administration from New York University. He is a certified public accountant.

He will be recognized June 27 during the Kansas City Business Journal Awards Luncheon at the Sheraton Overland Park (Kan.).
