Benefits of Affiliation

  • Preceptor Benefits

While many physicians choose to participate in the clinical training program in order to give back to their profession, we recognize that physicians commit time, energy and talent to the education of our students. Physicians choosing to partner with KCUMB to educate medical students enjoy many benefits.

Preceptors will receive CME credit for each month they take a student. Credit is assigned on an hour-for-hour basis, with up to 160 hours of CME credit for a four-week/one-month block. The level of CME is as follows:

    • D.O. Category 1-B CME will be submitted to the AOA on behalf of the physician, up to 160 per month for taking students.
    • M.D. Category 2 CME credit is based on the AMA’s Physician Recognition Award. A summary letter will be sent to the physician quarterly to ensure timely submission can be made to the AMA by the physician.

Preceptors will enjoy faculty development and appreciation events and have the opportunity to apply for Community Clinical Faculty Appointment.

    • Local preceptors are welcome to come to campus and utilize the KCUMB Library. Additionally, a guest login to all KCUMB search databases can be obtained while doing research in KCUMB's D'Angelo Library.

Preceptors awarded Community Clinical Faculty Appointment will also enjoy the following benefits:

    • Registration discount of 25 percent for all KCUMB sponsored CME activities
    • Subscription to MD Consult
    • Certificate of Appointment
    • Subscription to all KCUMB publications, including KCUMB Magazine

    Site Benefits

    • Sites enjoy introducing student to opportunities at the hospital and in the area.
    • Sites are provided monetary compensation per student per clerkship for third-year clerkships, fourth-year core clerkships and sub-internships to help offset administrative costs.
    • Faculty development programs
