During the third and fourth years at KCUMB’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, clinical clerkships reinforce and expand upon the training of the first two years. COM students must complete 20 clinical experiences (rotations).
All clinical experiences are identified in terms of “blocks,” which are either four weeks or one month in duration. Learning objectives are provided for all core clinical experiences to enhance the learning experience. Preceptors evaluate students at the end of each clinical experience.
Additionally, fourth-year students are required to complete both a one-month clinical experience in a rural or underserved area and two sub-internship blocks or three months of rural or underserved family medicine. All core clinical experiences are supported by a competency-based curriculum, which represents an integrated, seamless continuation of the Genesis curriculum offered during the first two years of training at KCUMB.
