Facilities

With six new buildings already added to the University landscape since 1996, Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences’ commitment to providing first-class facilities for its students is evident. The One Vision capital campaign will raise an additional $11 million for facilities, ensuring that commitment remains strong. At the heart of our current facilities expansion is the Weaver Auditorium Complex, shown to the right. The complex features the D’Angelo Library, a student activities center and Weaver Auditorium.

D’Angelo Library
The $3.5 million goal for construction of the D’Angelo Library will include a learning resources center, collection and reference rooms, several training and conference rooms, an audio-visual/multimedia room, group study rooms and numerous offices for library support personnel. The spacious 37,000-square-foot facility will allow room for growth in the library’s collections and will take full advantage of advancements in technology to offer students up-to-the-minute resources for enhancing their educational experiences.

The library will be named for Vincent F. D’Angelo, D.O. (COM ’57), and his wife, Cleo V. D’Angelo. Dr. D’Angelo gave generously to the University in his estate plan, wishing to dedicate the library to the memory of his beloved wife, Cleo, and her lifelong love of the arts, including music, literature and nature.

Student Activities Center
The 32,500-square-foot Student Activities Center builds on the University’s commitment to student services and provides a centralized gathering place and specific work spaces for students to study and conduct organizational meetings, while also giving attention to their health and overall well-being.

The $3.5 million goal for construction of the Student Activities Center will include a student lounge, vending and dining areas, a mail room, meetings and conference rooms, the campus bookstore, a multi-dimensional fitness center with a walking/running track, cardiovascular and weight training equipment, an aerobics facility, a game room, a small theater, and a large ballroom for both campus and community events.

Weaver Auditorium
The opening of the 1,500-seat Weaver Auditorium marks a significant milestone, enabling the Convocation, White Coating and Commencement ceremonies to take place on campus for the first time in KCUMB’s 90-year history. In addition to hosting University events, the facility is available for community events as part of the KCUMB’s commitment to Kansas City and the urban core.

The elegant new auditorium honors the lifelong dedication of the late Jack T. Weaver, D.O. (COM ’63), who served as chair of the University’s Board of Trustees for more than 10 years; his wife, Mary; his son, Howard D. Weaver, D.O. (COM ’84); and his daughter-in-law, Debra S. Albers, D.O. (COM ’86).

There are numerous naming and program opportunities available for those wishing to be a part of the inspiring rites of passage that will occur in this complex. Contact the KCUMB Advancement Office at 1-800-234-4847 for more information.
