KNOXVILLE, TN, October 1, 2008/Cambridge Who's Who -- Dr. Gary D. Singer, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine for TeamHealth, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of healthcare.
With more than 25 years of professional experience, Dr. Singer specializes in emergency medicine, trauma care and ensuring patient satisfaction. He is primarily responsible for overseeing administrative duties and assisting and supervising medical directors. He became involved in his profession because he was always interested in emergency medicine and attributes his success to his hard work and communication skills.
Dr. Singer received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. He sits on the board of the Tennessee College of Emergency Physicians, is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and is a member of the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine and the American College of Physicians. Dr. Singer hopes to become chief operating officer or a medical director of a large tertiary medical center.

KCUMB Alumnus Named U.S. Olympic Team Chief Medical Officer

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – (May 28, 2008) – The United States Olympic Committee has named William J. Kuprevich, D.O. (COM ’73), Bloomsburg, Pa, as the chief medical officer for the U.S. Team in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
As chief medical officer he will coordinate the medical coverage of more than 600 U.S. athletes in China, working with a staff of 60 doctors, athletic trainers and medical personnel in Beijing and other locations in the country.
Dr. Kuprevich also served as the CMO for the U.S. Team in last year’s Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the 2006 Paralympic Games in Torino, Italy.
In other sports-related assignments he has been team physician for the U.S. Women’s National Basketball Team in the FIBA World League, was a physician for the U.S. Paralympic Track and Field Team at the IPC World Championships and was physician for various cycling championships including the 1996 Olympic Team Trials.
Dr. Kuprevich has been involved with the USOC medical program since 1999 when he served as a volunteer physician at the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center.
He established a seven-physician primary care practice consisting of family, pediatric and internal medicine in Bloomsburg. In 2005 Dr. Kuprevich was named “Family Physician of the Year” by the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physician Society.
He currently serves the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association as vice president and is a member of the legislative committee of the organization. He practices at Susquehanna (Pa.) Valley Medical Specialities and is an active staff member at Bloomsburg Hospital.
Dr. Kuprevich received his undergraduate degree from Temple University in Philadelphia and did his graduate work at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He interned at Mount Clemens General Hospital in Mount Clemens, Mich.
Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences is a fully accredited, private university, with a College of Biosciences and a College of Osteopathic Medicine. Founded in 1916, its College of Osteopathic Medicine is the oldest medical school in Kansas City, Mo., and the largest in the state.

Thomas R. Czarnecki, D.O., F.A.C.O.F.P. (COM ’61), of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was recently honored with the 2008 Family Physician of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physicians Society (POFPS). The award was given in recognition of Dr. Czarnecki's outstanding service to the osteopathic profession and his community.
He completed a residency at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, and also holds a master's of public health in health administration from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland. Immediate past president of the POFPS and a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP), Dr. Czarnecki is vice chairman of the American Osteopathic Association's Bureau of Osteopathic History and Identity and a past chairman of the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine. A delegate to the ACOFP and the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association (POMA), Dr. Czarnecki retired from Harrisburg State Hospital, where he served as past president of the medical staff.
Kevin Hubbard, D.O. (COM '86), FACOI, was installed last November as the national president of the American College of Osteopathic Internists. He will serve a one-year term and will then serve as immediate past president on the board. He was also installed as first vice president at the Missouri Osteopathic Annual Convention in May. Dr. Hubbard has a private practice at Heartland Hematology and Oncology Associates in North Kansas City. He also serves as medical director for Crossroads Hospice of Kansas City.
John Dougherty, D.O. (COM ’92), and Chris Dougherty, D.O. (COM ’96), were named as team physicians for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, the Double-A Texas League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Dr. John Dougherty completed a fellowship in sports medicine while at KCUMB and is board certified in family medicine and sports medicine. Dr. Chris Dougherty is board certified in orthopedic surgery and specializes in sports surgeries. Both practice at Agility Center Sports Medicine of Bentonville, Ark.
Scott Avery, D.O. (COM ’07), was profiled in December on Air Force Link, the official website of the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Avery, also Tech. Sgt. Avery, has chosen to keep his Air Force Reserve job as an aircraft armament systems specialist with the 442nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo.
Julie Edween, D.O. (COM ’95), practices plastic surgery on Los Angeles’ legendary Sunset strip. Her practice has been showcased nationally on Discovery Channel’s “Plastic Surgery Beverly Hills” and The Learning Channel’s “Bodywork.” Dr. Edween is also a co-founder of the Eunice Wavomba Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the health of impoverished women and children in Kenya.
Lori Boyajian-O’Neill, D.O. (COM ’84), associate professor and chair of family medicine was among the expert panelists for “Selected Issues in Injury and Illness Prevention and the Team Physician: A Consensus Statement,” which was published in the November edition of Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, a publication of the American College of Sports Medicine. She was inducted Oct. 30 into the American Osteopathic Association’s Mentor Hall of Fame. Additionally, Dr. Boyajian-O’Neill co-authored a chapter, entitled “Practical Application of Osteopathic Manipulation in Sports Medicine,” which was published in the Sports Medicine Resource Manual. The North Kansas City School District and Board of Education recently recognized KCUMB’s sports medicine program as a Point of Pride for its work with the district and its student-athletes.
