The science and practice of diagnosing and treating mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders
The teaching program of the KCUMB Department of Psychiatry is a lecture sequence designed to provide a knowledge base, skills, and appropriate compassionate attitudes and values applicable to any postgraduate specialty choice or career in medicine.
In third- and fourth-year clinical clerkship experiences, students actively participate in the diagnosis and treatment of patients (pediatric to adult) with psychiatric conditions in various inpatient and outpatient settings. The program equips students to enter postgraduate medical education with an understanding of the common psychiatric problems and issues encountered by a practicing physician as well as the treatments and interventions available.
