Curriculum Vitae

As an associate professor of biochemistry at KCUMB since 2007, Asma Zaidi, Ph.D., teaches membrane transport. Her additional teaching interests include calcium signaling, chemistry of the nervous system, experimental pharmacology and biochemistry, and proteomics techniques.

Prior to joining the teaching staff at KCUMB, Dr. Zaidi was a professor and research associate at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS, a postdoctoral fellow for the Department of Medical Biochemistry at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and a visiting scientist at Institut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Medicale in Paris, France.

She earned a bachelor of science in chemistry and biology from Isabella Thoburn College in Lucknow, India, and a master of science in biochemistry from Lucknow University in Lucknow, India. She also earned a master of philosphy in biochemistry, and a doctor of philosophy in biochemistry from Aligarh University in Aligarh, India.

Dr. Zaidi is the recipient of research grant awards from the American Heart Association, the American Federation for Aging Research, the National Institutes of Health and the Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute.

Her research interests include brain aging and neurodegeneration, lipid rafts and the effect of oxidative stress on neuronal calcium signaling.

Outside of teaching and conducting research, Dr. Zaidi enjoys interior design, cooking and reading.
