Norbert W. Seidler, Ph.D.

Professor and Chair of Biochemistry

Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Seidler’s career highlights include being named Instructor of the Year in 1994, receiving the Missouri Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2004 and having a figure from one of his original manuscripts chosen for the cover of Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications.

A KCUMB faculty member since 1991, Dr. Seidler holds a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Princeton University.

Dr. Seidler’s primary research interests involve the relationship of protein misfolding and aggregation to the molecular processes of aging, neurodegeneration and diabetes mellitus. His teaching interests include the biochemical themes associated with protein folding and proper function, in addition to fuel utilization, since it’s the fuel oxidative byproducts that create havoc to protein structure.

He is a member of the Biochemical Society (London), the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the Society for Free Radical Biology and Medicine.
