Des Peres Hospital St. Louis

Des Peres Hospital, in the suburbs of St. Louis, is a 143-bed, acute care, mixed DO and MD staff facility. This hospital provides the core rotations in General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesia, and Family Medicine. General Surgery services include the sub-specialties of Urology and Open Heart Cardiovascular Surgery. Internal Medicine services include the sub-specialties of Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Geriatric Medicine and ICU. The Emergency Medical services are not trauma designated but include a wide range of emergency services seen at any major metropolitan hospital. Anesthesia services offer an opportunity to develop the skills of intubations and intravenous access. Family Medicine is both an in-patient service as well as the rural health initiative of a six-member outpatient clinic.

Duties & Opportunities 

  • Student Duties: Students are required to participate in night call, weekend call and weekend rounds.
  • Didactic Opportunities: Students are required to participate in morning report, lectures, patient rounds and required reading as assigned.
  • OMT/OPP Opportunities: Opportunities for skill development in OMT/OPP is provided through lectures, patient rounds and in the clinical setting during family medicine and internal medicine clerkships.
