Academic Resources
Academic Support/Learning Enhancement
The University is aware that academic challenges faced by students are very intense. It is possible that this experience will be the first that will seriously challenge some students. Academic skills, including time management, study skills and test-taking skills, may need to be improved to achieve maximum success. Students seeking assistance in these areas are encouraged to pursue University-supported services.
A learning/education specialist is available to offer academic skills workshops in addition to providing individual academic support as needed. It is suggested that students seek this support at the first sign of concern about academic performance abilities. This specialist is housed in Smith Hall and can be reached at ext. 2481.
The Supplemental Instructor program also provides limited tutoring at no cost to COM students. Appointments may be made by calling ext. 2480.
Blackboard
Blackboard is the online, distance education software package that KCUMB’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and College of Biosciences use to provide supplemental instruction to students. Blackboard is an integral part of the multimedia learning process for all KCUMB students.
Careers in Medicine
Careers in Medicine (CiM) is a career planning program designed to help you choose a medical specialty and select and apply to a residency program. This four-phase process will guide you through the elements of career planning, including self-understanding, exploring a variety of medical careers, and finally choosing a specialty to meet your career objectives. People whose choice of careers matches their values, skills and interests tend to be more satisfied and successful in their working lives. This is also true of selecting a specialty.
