Interests:
Examination of the role of HIV infection and the viral protein product Tat on the expression, localization and activity of Pgp in human enterocytes. The gastrointestinal tract is an important site for early HIV entry and replication. Several effects of HIV infection are mediated by secreted viral factors produced during an infection. For instance, the HIV protein Tat can be taken up and induce apoptosis of neighboring uninfected T-lymphocytes and Tat has also been shown to exert pathogenic effects on enterocytes. P-glycoprotein (Pgp) is a transmembrane efflux pump whose expression results in decreased intracellular concentrations of certain anti-HIV drugs. [Read more...]

Title: Assistant ProfessorDepartment: Anatomy
Interests: The relationship between positional behavior (posture and locomotion), postcranial anatomy/morphology, and how this relationship functions to allow mammals (particularly non-human primates) to use their natural environments. I am also interested in the application of my research to conservation problems, in particular those having to do with habitat preservation. [Read more...]
