Before any research can be initiated, all required training must be
completed on the Collaborative
Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) website. Use the steps below to complete your training. Depending on the type of research, multiple courses may be required.
Effective Feb. 24, 2014: Before engaging in any research or educational activity that is funded by the National Science Foundation, the Financial Conflict of Interest course on citiprogram.org must be completed. Training is valid for two years.
Important - Additional training needed for biohazardous labs/IBC research: NIH requires documentation that personnel in biohazardous labs have both general training (CITI's Biosafety Complete Training) and lab-specific, principal investigator-led training. The principal investigator of the lab gives the hands-on training to the personnel. Download the lab-specific training form (.doc) and submit the completed form to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
Step 1: Determine which course(s) you need to take.Step 2: Go to citiprogram.org and select course(s).Step 3: Take course, take (or retake) quiz and submit your scores.
Based on the type of research activity you will be conducting, you must select the appropriate course. Use the form below to find the course, or download our helpful guide to selecting the required CITI course. Depending on the type of research, you may need to take one or more courses.
Before conducting research, you must register or log on to the Collaborative
Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) website and complete the
required courses. You must reach a score of 80 percent or higher on the
course for each module in order to pass the course for KCUMB purposes.
If you have not yet registered, you must first create an account on citiprogram.org
Go to citiprogram.org and log in to your account. If you have forgotten your username or password, contact the Assistant Director of Research Compliance at 816-654-7605.
How do I get started with CITI training? See Step 2 for instructions on how to create an account on citiprogram.org.
What if I experience technical issues accessing the citiprogram.org site? Visit the CITI Support Site at http://citiprogram.desk.com/ and for the fastest service, choose the Live Chat Option on the right-hand side of the screen (under “Contact Us”).
What course(s) do I need? See Step 1 to determine which course(s) you need.
What is a passing score for CITI? You must reach a score of 80 percent or higher on the course for each model in order to pass the course for KCUMB purposes.
Why do you require a minimum score? KCUMB requires a minimum score to ensure understanding of all modules.
How do I retake a quiz? You must retake quizzes before you have completed the course, otherwise the new scores will not appear in your completion report. To retake a quiz, click on "View Module Again and Retake Quizzes". You may retake a quiz as many times as necessary.
What if I already have a completion report, but need to retake quizzes? From your CITI main page, click "View Previously Completed Coursework" and click the relevant course. There will be a list of modules. Click "View" for the modules with scores less than 80 percent.
