As an incoming student, you are eligible for the following KCU-COM recruitment scholarships based on your academic performance and promise. All scholarships, with the exception of the diversity scholarship, are one-time awards. 

Note: The receipt of any full-tuition scholarship will negate your eligibility for any KCU scholarship.

First-year COM Scholarships

Presidential Scholarship

Amount: $10,000

Requirements: Minimum 30 MCAT and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.95

Application: Not required

Selection: Awarded automatically based on confirmation of final scores 

Dean's Scholarship

Amount: $5,000

Requirements: Minimum 29 MCAT and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.90

Application: Not required

Selection: Awarded automatically based on confirmation of final scores 

University Scholarship

Amount: $1,500

Requirements: Minimum 28 MCAT and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75

Application: Not required

Selection: Awarded automatically based on confirmation of final scores

Diversity Scholarship

Amount: $20,000

Awarded to: Three under-represented minorities in medical education, with a minimum 28 MCAT and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.65

Renewable: Yes. This award is renewable for three additional years and requires you to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and earn a minimum satisfactory grade on all courses/clerkships. In the event that there are more than three candidates who qualify, a selection committee would determine the scholarship recipients.

Note: Under-represented minorities include all students who identify their ethnicity as Alaskan Native, American Indian, Black, Hispanic, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander. In medical education, Caucasian and Asian populations are not considered under-represented minorities.

KCU-COM Service Leadership Scholarship

Amount: $10,000

Applied toward: Tuition costs

Awarded to: One male and one female incoming KCU-COM students who demonstrate outstanding service and/or leadership in a health care related field (excluding shadowing experiences) and show significant financial need (qualified as $0-$6,000 expected family contribution on the incoming students FAFSA and total resources (outside scholarships, parental support, etc) no greater than $5,000).

Selection: Scholarship recipients are determined by a selection committee.

Enrolled Student Scholarships

Academic Honors Scholarship

Amount: $1,500

Awarded to: First- and second-year students in the College of Osteopathic Medicine who earned a cumulative GPA of 3.80 - 3.89 as of the end of the academic year. Award is credited during the next academic year.

Applied toward: Tuition and fees

Application: None

Selection: Based on cumulative GPA at the conclusion of the academic year 

COMLEX 1 Excellence Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Awarded to: Enrolled students in the College of Osteopathic Medicine who have earned a COMLEX 1 score at the 90 percent or higher percentile for first-time test takers

Applied toward: Tuition and fees for the third year of medical school

Application: None

Selection: Based on official first-time COMLEX 1 scores

COMLEX 2-CE Excellence Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Awarded to: Enrolled students in the College of Osteopathic Medicine who have earned a COMLEX 2-CE score at the 90 percent or higher percentile for first-time test takers

Applied toward: Tuition and fees for the fourth year of medical school

Application: None

Selection: Based on official first-time COMLEX 2-CE scores

Student Affairs Leadership and Service Scholarship

Amount: $3,000

Awarded to: Enrolled students, at the conclusion of the first, second, or third academic year in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, who demonstrate exceptional leadership or service to KCU and/or the Kansas City community.

Applied toward: Tuition and fees for the following year of medical school

Selection: Recipients determined by committee, during the spring of each year

Post-9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program Scholarship

Amount: $2,500

Awarded to: Up to five students annually at the beginning of each academic year. Students must be certified as an eligible recipient by the United States Department of Veteran Affairs to receive the scholarship, which is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Selection: First come, first served basis 

Endowed Scholarships

KCU manages several endowed scholarship funds and awards second-, third- and fourth-year medical students scholarships from these funds annually. The criteria for each scholarship is donor stipulated. Applications for endowed scholarships are made available each spring and scholarships are awarded in the fall of the following year. Each scholarship requires leadership and community service as part of the criteria for receiving funds. Awards typically range from $500 to $2,000.
