Personal Experiences with Medicine and Research in a Limited Resource Environment: Ideas and Solutions for the 21st Century and Beyond
Steven Gustafson, D.O., Assistant Professor of Pathology, KCUMB | Read biography
A physician or research scientist with a desire to
work in a limited resource environment faces many challenges.
Consideration must be given to economic and cultural values, cultural
differences and norms specific to a particular population. These are
important factors to consider when planning and conducting research and
or practicing medicine. Support for activities we often take for
granted, like running water, electricity, infectious diseases, and good
transportation to name a few, can become significant barriers to
success. Join Dr. Gustafson as he shares his personal experiences,
successes and challenges.
